A photo exhibition and a talk event in the memory of the Syria Turkey Earthquake

Photo Exhibition Summary:

Japan Bridge has organized a photo exhibition that sheds the light on the aftermath of the Syria Turkey Earthquake that hit in Feb 6 2023.

Photographers

The photos were gathered from photographers living in the northern parts of Syria and covering different areas of impact. A short bio of each photographer is included here:

Hatem Alkhoder

A 24 year-old Syrian photographer and journalist. He is a graduate of English literature who loves photography. Hatem is currently based in Idlib, Syria.

Karam Kellieh

A war correspondent who worked with several agencies such as: FRS, SY+, AlJAZEERA, Frontline in Focus, and Tiny Hand.

Fareed Almahlool

A Syrian conflict freelance reporter and a bomb survivor. He’s been covering the ongoing conflict in Syria for years. He also worked as a research assistant at Columbia University.

Ahmed Akacha

A 23 years old photographer, most passionate about freedom, sports and photography. Lives in north-west Syria after being displaced from Damascus Suburbs in 2013. He takes photos to document the suffering of Syrian people and try to echo their voices to the world.

Rami Alsayed

A photojournalist who lives in a camp in northern Syria for the internally displaced people. He became interested in photography to report tyranny and oppression upon the outbreak of the protests in 2011. He reported from Damascus, the besieged Yarmouk Camp and north of Syria. His dream is to have a passport.

Talk Event Summary:

On Feb 10 2024, Japan Bridge in collaboration with JICA held a talk event titled: “A new light of hope: Japan Bridge”, in commemoration of the one year memorial of the Turkey Syria earthquake.
The event witnessed high activity with people coming to see the impact of the earthquake and the lives of people impacted by it. People from various socialsociety backgrounds visited and showed their compassion and support for the Syrian people.

On Feb 10 2024, Japan Bridge in collaboration with JICA held a talk event titled: “A new light of hope: Japan Bridge”, in commemoration of the one year memorial of the Turkey Syria earthquake.
The event started with a presentation by JICA introducing the JISR program to build human resources that will aid in the construction of Syria in the future. This was followed by 2 members of Japan Bridge who introduced Syria, the earthquake and the latest updates on the ground. In addition, they presented the situation of the fundraiser that started a year ago with the goal to build an apartment building that can house 12 families affected by the earthquake. Lastly, a QA session was held with the attendees where various topics were raised including inquiries about the support and international aid for the target area, actions by Syrians in Japan and worldwide and the current living conditions inside Syria.

The event witnessed an active participation from a wide range of the society components including students, employees, business owners, NGO representatives as well as national and international organizations members.
The event was heard positively among the participants and many were impressed about the level of preparation and were touched when hearing the insight about the situation in Syria.
As a result, the donations collected after the event totaled 142,000 yen. These have been split equally between Molham Volunteering team that is responsible for the construction of the apartment building in Syria and the Ishikawa prefecture municipality.
